I just bought your game after playing the demo (I play it at work when I need a break). The problem is that without any proxy support I am unable to upgrade to the full version.

Would you be able to explain to me how / if i can activate it on another pc at home and then bring it to work? Or if there is going to be proxy support very soon in the future?

Unfortunately taking the pc somewhere it has an open internet connection is not an option. This is just another case where DRM punishes the customer.
Thanks.

I'll take the lack of replies as a "we aren't going to fix your problem"? Not even sure if it's being looked into.

I didn't notice it saying anywhere that I was going to need to have proxy-less access to the internet before I could play the full version until I actually entered a valid key. Maybe this should be added to the requirements list?

So now I feel quite ripped off. I've bought a game but can't play it because of badly thought out DRM. And while 99% of people probably won't have this problem, it's the 1% pointing out that a crack for the game would probably work that's going to cause all the damage.

Now unless someone can tell me what the activation actually does to the game files, the only question left is: Does anyone want to buy a serial off me? Just make sure you have unrestricted access to the internet first.

Maz,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I will forward your complaint on to Greenhouse, as they are the ones responsible for the DRM management. I will get you an answer ASAP.

Sincerely,

Maz,

It looks like this came up on the forums for World of Goo as well:
http://forum.playgreenhouse.com/jforum/posts/list/960.page

I sent an e-mail to Greenhouse directly, but if you could send an e-mail to support@playgreenhouse.com it will put you in direct contact with someone who is better able to help you.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

----------------------------------------------------------

Good news, we have a new mechanism for proxy support.

Bad news is that it's a little bit technical right now, but we're working on a more user-friendly version.

First, you launch a DOS box (cmd.exe)
Then you cd to the directory of the game (cd "\Program Files (x86)\Strange Attractors 2\")
Then you set an environment variable (set https_proxy=http://domain\user:password@ip-of-proxy:port-of-proxy/)
Finally you run the game exe (SA.exe)

You should now be able to authenticate, and obviously once you're authenticated you can launch the game the usual way rather than this long convoluted method.
